Kay’D May’D was born Warb Kendell Wilcox in Mobile, Alabama. Kay’D May’D’s passion for music began at an early age when, at 8, he was introduced to the violin. Years later in middle school, Kay’D found what would become his real calling- playing percussion. In high school Kay’D achieved his ultimate goal of marching in Mobile’s Mardi Gras parade with John L. Leflore’s Marching Rattlers.
In 1995, after the means streets of Mobile and a few run-ins with the law, Kay’D moved to New York City to break into the music industry. He struggled to find a match for his Durtey South flow. After one late night studio session he decided he would take full control over every aspect of his music.
In 1996 Kay’D enrolled in the Institute of Audio Research and finished top in his class. Kay’D was offered a job at Axis studio, one of NYC’s most popular studios. While working at Axis he engineered or assisted on projects for artists like Jody Watley, Playa and Mobb Deep. While he enjoyed working with stars he knew he wanted to be behind the microphone.
After years of perfecting his writing and production skills, Kay’D May’D joined forces with J-30, Van 50 Grand, Nervz, G-Lock and his longtime friend and original rhyme partner, Beware, to form Slumlandz. After releasing NYC underground classics, Living A Dream and United We Stand, it seemed all his hard work had paid off when the group was offered a deal from Sony records. Unfortunately, internal conflicts and contract disputes stopped the project from moving forward.
Kay’D May’D left Slumlandz and NYC to move to California. In Cali, Kay’D started One Life One Family Entertainment and released his first solo, Bamafied. After the release of Bamafied, Kay’D decided to focus on his production. Kay’D, known as Maytron when he’s in producer mode, can be heard on ESPN Street ball, And 1 Mix Tape, Slam from the Streets and many 1 Life 1 Family songs. Kay’D May’D returned to the mic with Oklahoma City native, Young Haz aka O- City, to record Da Durtey and Fish & Gritz. Now Kay’D May’D is back with a new solo album, Back 2 Square 1
Kay’D May’D has expanded to 1 Life Multimedia, 1 Life Apperal and One Life One Family L.L.C.. Keep an eye out for more big things to come!
